Push & Pull is a publishing project between two friends which explores and exploits common aspects of collaborative work. We wanted to collaborate on a project without ever really collaborating— letting the process dictate the outcome.
We created a basic set of rules: Each zine was passed back and forth four times. Each round lasted three days, taking two weeks to complete a zine. The ideas, content, and design of the project was never discussed. Each round gave the designer total control— anything on the pages could be changed, altered, added to, or deleted. The outcome is a silent conversation between us, in which the aspects we explored— trust, power, balance, vulnerability, and tension— were not only the topics for the zines, but also realities of the process.
